Our team has officially commenced the implementation of a new project aimed at establishing a modern system for monitoring, recording, and enforcing measures against illegal waste disposal and other forms of environmental pollution in the Municipality of Banovići. The contract was awarded in October, and implementation has started according to the planned schedule.
This project marks an important step for Banovići in modernizing its environmental management practices. We are leading the full implementation process—from the technical assessment of the current situation, to the development of a monitoring methodology, and the introduction of digital tools for reporting, documenting, and processing violations. A strong emphasis is placed on increasing transparency, operational efficiency, and the institutional capacity of local environmental services. Through a combination of technical expertise, field work, and digital solutions, the project will provide Banovići with its first comprehensive, functional, and sustainable environmental protection system aligned with modern standards. Implementation is underway. The coming weeks will include initial testing, mapping, and the establishment of core operational procedures. The project will continue throughout the full contract period, with a clear objective: to strengthen waste management, reduce illegal activities, and improve environmental quality for the community.
This initiative is supported and financed by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) through the regional BH Sutra programme, which focuses on improving environmental governance, strengthening institutions, and supporting innovative solutions for cleaner and more resilient communities across Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project in Banovići represents one of the programme’s practical interventions aimed at scaling actionable, locally-owned environmental improvements.
