Project: Homolje

Projects

Brief and project description

Homolje – Post-Fire Remediation and Drone-Assisted Reforestation Program (2023–2025).

The Homolje project focused on the recovery of a 10-hectare forest area in Konjic severely affected by wildfire. Between 2023 and 2025, Remote Ltd led the full cycle of planning, technical analysis, and field implementation, working in partnership with the Forestry Prenj d.d. Konjic, Federal Agropedological Institute and the Municipality of Konjic. The goal was to restore the damaged ecosystem, reduce long-term fire risk, and introduce modern technologies that improve precision, efficiency, and ecological outcomes.

  • Led a two-year (2023–2025) remediation and restoration program for the Homolje post-fire area
  • Developed the full project concept, plan, and implementation program with institutional partners
  • Produced Study on the Remediation of Endangered Areas based on soil sampling, ecological diagnostics, GIS analysis, and drone-based terrain assessment
  • Managed overall project implementation, technical coordination, and quality assurance
  • Led the experimental drone-based reforestation phase using the “seed bombs” method

Process

Homolje – Post-Fire Remediation and Drone-Assisted Reforestation Program (2023–2025) The Homolje project focused on the recovery of a 10-hectare forest area in Konjic severely affected by wildfire. Between 2023 and 2025, Remote Ltd led the full cycle of planning, technical analysis, and field implementation, working in partnership with the Federal Agropedological Institute, Šumarstvo Prenj d.d. Konjic, and the Municipality of Konjic. The goal was to restore the damaged ecosystem, reduce long-term fire risk, and introduce modern technologies that improve precision, efficiency, and ecological outcomes. The work began with the development of the project concept, remediation strategy, and a full implementation program to address both immediate post-fire impacts and long-term forest resilience. Remote secured financial mobilization and co-funding for the project through institutional partnership and technical preparation. A detailed Study on the Remediation of Endangered Areas was prepared, combining ecological diagnostics, soil analysis, GIS mapping, and drone-based terrain assessment to clearly define priority intervention zones. Field implementation included systematic removal of burned timber, targeted soil remediation, and preparation of the terrain for reforestation. A total of 20,000 black pine (Pinus nigra) seedlings were planned for planting, selected for their strong adaptability and fire resilience. For steep and hard-to-reach areas, Remote piloted drone-assisted reforestation using the seed-bomb method—an innovative approach introduced for the first time in this region. GIS systems were deployed for real-time monitoring of vegetation recovery, soil health, and post-intervention ecosystem performance. A long-term management plan was developed to guide continuous monitoring, identify threats such as erosion, pests, and diseases, and ensure that the restored forest develops into a stable, resilient ecosystem capable of withstanding future climate-driven fire risks.

This is a big step not only for the City of Konjic, for our public company Šumarstvo Prenj, but also for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, because the way in which the innovative solution for afforestation is presented is very important and I hope it will benefit others as well
