Project: Solar Report

Projects

Brief and project description

The project involved a comprehensive research study on the potential for solar energy production on rooftop surfaces across selected urban zones in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The work aimed to support strategic planning for cleaner energy systems by identifying how unused roof areas could be transformed into decentralized solar power sources. By focusing on solar potential in densely populated zones, the project addressed two core objectives: reducing dependence on fossil fuels and improving air quality in some of the Federation’s most pollution-affected urban environments.

The research was grounded in an integrated geospatial and environmental methodology. High-resolution drone imaging, detailed digital terrain modeling, and advanced GIS analyses were used to precisely map rooftop structures and assess solar exposure. These datasets made it possible to evaluate how much energy could realistically be generated on each rooftop, what level of emissions reduction could be achieved, and which photovoltaic technologies would deliver the most efficient results.

Through this systematic approach, the project delivered a clear, data-driven foundation for future investments in rooftop solar systems. It provided public institutions and local governments with actionable insights—showing where solar installations are most viable, how they would impact environmental quality, and what technical configurations offer the highest return. The findings form a practical roadmap for accelerating the energy transition in urban areas of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

  • Identification and categorization of rooftop locations suitable for solar panel installation
  • Assessment of potential solar energy yield and expected reductions in harmful emissions
  • High-resolution drone imagery of target zones and creation of a complete Digital Terrain Model (DTM)
  • Development of a detailed GIS database of all relevant physical and spatial attributes
  • Advanced GIS-based solar insolation modeling and raster-format solar potential maps
  • Recommendations for optimal photovoltaic technologies and system configurations
